How can I keep a Christmas Cactus?

It is potted. Bloomed beautifully, now just the green. Someone told me it needs to hibernate til next year.

How can I keep a Christmas Cactus?
A christmas cactus will not always be in bloom. Mine normally blooms in the late fall up until about Dec. It is now starting to bloom again this month. I suggest keeping it in a sunny location. When not in bloom don't water as much remember it is a cactus. When it's in bloom keep it evenly moist you can even give it some food at this time as the plant will be using more energy. You shouldn't have to transplant very often. I used regular potting soil mixed with some sterile sand. Good luck it's a beautiful plant and fairly easy to care for.
Reply:I've had a Christmas Cactus for three years now. It was a gift. It has grown so much that I had to re-pot it last year. I just water it once a week and leave it in the sun. I set it out on my deck all summer long. It has bloomed three times each year - around Thanksgiving and Christmas, around Easter and during the summer.
Reply:Yes it will hibernate. Then as the years go by if it is in a happy place it will start blooming about twice a year, once in the spring or just before summer and then just before Christmas.
