Why is my christmas cactus dropping its blooms right before they open?
Check out the following web site http://www.fernlea.com/xmas/cactinfo.htm...
Scroll down and you will read about humidity. I have only seen problems like this once and it was easily corrected.
Reply:I agree with all the answers before me but want to add--once you have solved the light/humidity/temperature issues, add about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of epson salt to the dirt around the plant. I did this and now all my flowering plants including the cactus and my african violets are blooming their hearts out. Thanks. Cora
Reply:christmas cactus grow best in brite light, no sun in the summer, winter sun is ok. If the tempture get to be above 90 degrees the buds will fall off.
Reply:Could be many reasons, like disease or fungus in the plant, or something like damage (like a cat bumping it or someone dropping it). Also environmental issues could cause problems, like over or under watering, if the plant has proper drainage or if it's getting too dry or too moist, or if the plant is in direct sunlight that is too hot or close to an air conditioner and too cold. If it's touching glass like on a window it could be damaging the flowers. It would help to know more about what's going on, how long it's been doing this, is it all or just some of the flowers, or a certain section of the plant? I think knowing a little more about the situation and environment might be able to help more
Reply:This happened to mine once... it was because I (gasp!) forgot to water it during flowering... I know, I know... shoot me now.
Reply:1. Check humidity. 2. Gravel in bottom of pot. 3.. Is it rootbound? 4. Draft on plant? 5. Last time fed with plant food. 6. Light level. 7. It's not in the kitchen, right? 8. Water how often? 9. Pest control? 10. Soil type/
