I have had a christmas cactus for 8 years (could be an easter cactus) why won't it bloom?

The other person who answered about the plante having to have time in the dark is absolutely correct.

The various cactus plants that are referred to as "Christmas cactus", "Easter cactus", and other names are from the Epiphyllum family of cactus. These are tropical cactus plants usually found in Central and South America. Cactus (or Cacti) are native only to North and South America.

I listed a few websites for you to reference cactus info from. Probably make you sorry that you asked the question, but it is all good, useful info.

Christmas cactus have to go through a period of extended dark hours at night to bloom. If you put your cactus were it will get less light and more dark time, it should start to bloom.
